Pelgrimage
Update: one open spot! Come on, unspecified anonymous soon to be seminarian ;)
If you’re a poor student*, don’t have anything to do between August 3 and 13, and like Dominican stuff: there are two open spots on the Lourdes/Other Wicked Cool French Sites trip one of the sisters of my future congregation is organising. It’s only 150 euros, plus self-booked flights to and from Toulouse, all-in! Free extras: talks on the Theology of the Body, two sisters and a priest, and a bunch of crazy English people. What’s not to love!
Open-minded non-Catholics are very welcome as well, the priest and sister (who, incidentally, is brilliant) are available for any and all questions. And we won’t try to convert you.
Much.
*or rich student, or poor/rich college-age, they’re really flexible ;)

Oh so tempted. But work being the curse of the drinking classes, I can’t get time off.
I just noticed I wrote “pilgrimage” in Dutch. Sigh.
Sorry you can’t come :( Would have been a nice second usage of all that trouble you took to convince Sr. Hyacinthe of your youthfulness ;)
Although I think fellow OPs can add at least 20 years to every maximum age.
I’ll have you know that I’m still classed as a youth for another two years. :-Þ
Oh, I like that!
I remember when we considered to go to the Toronto WYD… our priest was still young enough to go as a youth back then. And he was this very distinguished cigar-smoking doctorate-holding guy. We teased him endlessly :D
Actually, it’s two years and nine months. I find this hilarious.
You should put a counter on your blog ;)
Or what we had in kindergarten: an advent-calender, only for your birthday. I still have mine. It was made to look like me and behind every door was something I liked. (Our teacher was incredible.)
Almost 400 windows would be a lot of work, though.
this has nothing to do with anything but I felt the urge to tell you I wish I could be a physicist. It’s interesting and would make me interesting. Alas, that side of my brain is long dead.
Cheers,
Me.
We have people in their 60’s studying here. There is always hope. But thank you for reminding me how much I like my major, even during these times of exam stress :)
Only 150 euros? That’s cheap for a trip like that.
We’re staying with people and cooking for ourselves :)
If you have the time… we can surely figure something out? It’d be nice to have you along, with leaving in september and all :)
It certainly sounds tempting: Lourdes, a collection of English people, a pilgrimage, spending some time with you before we both change our lives a whole lot :P
I will see if I can come up with one or two possibilities, financially speaking.
YAY! That would be REALLY REALLY excellent :)
Having someone around who speaks a civilised language isn’t half bad either ;)
Civilised language? Me? :P
I’ll let you know what happens.
If all else fails, you can borrow it from me and pay me back in yearly instalments of Ben&Jerry’s ;)
Staple of the Dominican diet, right? ;)
But thanks for the offer.
I would love to come, but unfortunately I don’t finish work until 7th August. :’(
TWICE this happens!
You’d better plan your holidays real good next year ;) (And then, of course, I won’t be allowed to come.)
I cannot come this year, but if there’s a next year…maybe I’ll join. Meanwhile, I’m trying to push a mutal friend who I thinks needs it, to accept funds to come. Pray he will!

Alternatively, and handy for those with work committments, there is the Evangelium conference, also over the feast of St Dominic and featuring the paragon of OPness, fr Thomas Crean OP (at the minibus wheel, behind the lectern, in the bar, …).
7-9th August, Reading Oratory School
